To honour all the station has achieved since its humble origins in 1975, Triple J is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a suite of programs and free events.
The centrepiece of the celebration is a massive outdoor concert held in Sydney's Domain and live broadcast on January 16.
Following its tradition of supporting Australian music, the concert will be packed with established homegrown performers including veteran rappers the Hilltop Hoods, dance duo The Presets, pop jazz outfit The Cat Empire and Somebody that I Used to Know artist Gotye.
The musical festival will also include up and coming Aussie talent including Riptide singer-songwriter Vance Joy and alternative rock band The Preatures.
A tell-all documentary, Sounds Like Teen Spirit, will trace Triple J's tumultuous history and feature interviews and anecdotes from artists and radio personalities such as Missy Higgins, Roy & HG, Peter Garrett and Daniel Johns.
The anniversary program also includes a historical exhibition, a broadcast that will see the return of some of Triple J's favourite radio personalities and numerous shows tracing Triple J's history.
