Surprisingly, that was the best decision of his life.
The combination of the two things he loves most – travel and music– paved the way for a successful career which has led him to Ballarat for the first time.
“I have no regrets,” he said.
“It’s performing that allows me to travel the world and it’s the world that gave me the chance to perform.
“I think I find the most solace in not knowing where I am going and not knowing how I am going to get there.
“That way, each moment contains the seed of mystery and the excitement of receiving exactly what a person with no expectations expects; nothing.
“And nothing is the perfect canvas for anything.”
Having recently come off a whirlwind of festivals and gigs throughout Canada, the UK and Europe, Churchill said he looked forward to getting back on the road at home for his national tour throughout January.
The singer songwriter will perform at Ballarat’s Karova Lounge on January 17.
“I’ve been touring the last 18 months, so I think I finally got my live gigs to a key,” he said.
“This will actually be the fi rst gig I’ve had in Ballarat, so I’m really lookingforward to it.”
The tour, in support of his new single Single Spark, includes Ballarat as Churchill’s only regional stop in Victoria.
Churchill said Single Spark was about taking a step back from a fast-paced world and appreciating what is there.
Now 24, Churchill has mastered the guitar, bass drum, harmonica, tambourine and percussion, teaching himself to jumble all at the same time, something he said people could expect to see at his performance in Ballarat.
