The visitors stunned the Burras 100-71 in the first week back from the Christmas break on Saturday.
Elevated skipper Darren Fletcher excelled in the absence of Samantha Shannahan, belting Rob Baker’s rink 29-16 to give his side a sniff of hope with just five home and away rounds remaining.
Fellow skipper Andrew Myers said the club is determined to finish the season off strongly.
“We’ve got to try and win two in a row (for momentum),” Myers said. “It’s good because our season is sort of in our hands now. We were about 12-13 shots up at smoko, got out to about 20 and never gave them a chance from there.
“We’ve got another important one next week (against Central Wendouree).”
Despite a late rally, Myers’ rink succumbed to a 24-20 loss to Scott Hollingworth.
However, Martin Shea and Glenn Sargeant’s rinks shared Fletcher’s success with respective 26-12 and 25-19 victories over Simon Cornock and Don Louttit.
The race to avoid relegation is heating up, with Avenue, Webbcona and Central Wendouree the most likely to miss, while Sebastopol is yet to cement its spot for next season.
From a Geelong perspective, Bareena looks certain to be knocked down to division one after an 88-78 loss to Lara. In other matches, Victoria has almost locked in a finals berth after a tight 97-92 victory over Queenscliff, Geelong West beat Central Wendouree 109-73, while benchmark outfit Ocean Grove held off a spirited Webbcona, 118-93.
