The millions of shells fired in Europe and the millions of troops and civilians dead in World War I did not change the mindset of the Germans or the English; the terms of ceasefire assured World War II.

The massive bombing in Vietnam did not bring victory to USA; at the end of WWII the Marshal plan was implemented to reconstruct Japan. Germany and Japan now have two of biggest economies in the world.
Since 2008, Gaza City has been razed several times and rebuilt at cost in excess of $5 billion each time. Late in 2014 the Gaza war cost in excess of 2000 Palestinians lives and 67 Israelis.
Every Gaza obliteration guarantees a large future batch of terrorists. If the world accepts Israel as a sovereign state should it also accept Palestine?
It would benefit Israel if it had an economically strong neighbour in Palestine and Palestine would benefit if it had clear borders, industries school, medicines, water supply etc.
I had uncles who wouldn't buy Japanese cars yet the whole world has benefited from trade with Japan.
Would it be sensible to rebuild Gaza City and spend future money from the military budgets of the USA, UK, Israel, Europe, Arab States, Australia etc to finance a Marshal plan to consolidate the Palestinian economy.
Not to bomb Gaza City does not mean the West is soft, it does not mean bad people will stop firing rockets into Israel; it does mean there may be less terrorists in the future.
When bad people fire rockets into Israel they should be hunted down by military and police; bombing kills many children and women who have done nothing wrong and so often the guilty get off.
