Tragically, a predictable cycle is emerging:
1. Issues/unrest at Manus or Nauru;
2. Audio, visual information via mobile phone by asylum seekers in the camp unable to be verified independently;
3. Government issuing categorical denials;
4. Government accusing refugee advocates outside the camps of "incitement";
5. Government backing down on original denials, but re-stating the issue with government spin;
6. Issue/unrest disappearing from public interest.
I challenge Labor, Green, Liberal, Independents ... every parliamentarian to ditch party-specific spin and demand public accountability of this government for policy, actions, issues and results in our secretive immigration enterprise.
I challenge every parliamentarian to raise this issue daily, until full answers are received.
I challenge this government to identify a neutral third party perhaps the Red Cross to audit our camps and asylum-related actions and make public the findings. Free and unfettered access to all, full responsiveness by all with guaranteed no attribution for speaking truthfully.
