BMS backed up last week’s thrashing of Daylesford with an equally impressive 111-87 dismantling of Smeaton in round 14 on Saturday.
The club has retained its top-four position earned in round 13, but skipper Kevin McLean isn’t resting on his laurels after BMS’ bottom-ranked opponents managed to split the rinks.
McLean’s four belted David Toose’s rink 39-9, while Phil Clamp dismissed his opposition 32-9.
However, David Schreenan and Roy Crawley were both shown up by Jim Taylor and Geoff Pickering with respective 26-19 and 29-21 losses.
“As soon as we were two up, two down, I knew we still have some work to do,” McLean said.
“Learmonth won yesterday and they’ll be our big challenger.
“We’re taking it one week at a time and I think there’s still a bit of improvement in us.”
Learmonth sits in fifth place just four points behind BMS on 132, while Buninyong poses a distant threat in sixth on 116.
BMS has a friendly draw to end the home and away rounds.
The club will play Buninyong next week before finishing its season against Creswick, Mount Xavier and Ballarat.
“We’ve started playing as a team instead of individuals and we’re a group now,” McLean said.
“We can beat all the top teams and we’re not scared of anyone. We’re hoping to finish off the season well and go a bit further after that.”
The top three has been well and truly established, with Ballarat, City Oval and Ballarat East now out of reach for fellow finals aspirants after respective wins over Daylesford, Creswick and Buninyong.
Meanwhile, Learmonth has continued its dogged form with a 94-76 win over Mount Xavier.
