Shaw and his Avanti Racing squad will compete against 2011 Tour de France champion Cadel Evans in the latter’s final professional outing, at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race from January 31 to February 1.
The 28-year-old has described the 174-kilometre elite men’s route, which includes the Geelong Surf Coast loop, as well as a three-lap finishing circuit near the waterfront, as “terrifically hard”.
“We did a recon of Cadel’s race during the Bay Crits (Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic),” he said.
“It would have been disrespectful and ignorant of us not to do that. You’ve got to look at the course and the class of field that will be there.
“It’s going to be an arduous task for us because it will be super hard when it is raced,”
Shaw said. “Definitely, being a part of his last race (is special), because it’s going to go down in history.”
