Paul Kodorenko and Michelle McAliece on Monday welcomed their son at 2.42am – six days overdue and weighing 4.31 kilograms.
“It’s always been a special day; now, it’s even more special,” Ms McAliece said.
Baby Noah is the couple’s second child, and a brother for two-year-old Eliza.
Mr Kodorenko said he and Ms McAliece usually spent Australia Day at a party, listening to Triple J’s Hottest 100.
“It’s pretty cool Noah will have his birthday on Australia Day ... he’ll have fireworks and a day off every year,” he said.
Mr Kodorenko did get to listen to a bit of the Hottest 100, bringing in his daughter’s Barbie-themed pink radio to catch the countdown during the day.
“Noah has already had his first taste of the Hottest 100,” he said.
Ballarat Base Hospital is experiencing an influx in its maternity ward, with 135 women booked in to give birth.
Ms McAliece checked into the hospital on Friday and had to wait for an opening in the schedule to be induced.
“It’s just good to finally see him, fit and healthy,” the couple said.
