BUDDING Ballarat photographers made the most of this year’s Australia Day fireworks show.
The Courier was inundated with readers’ photos following the Power FM 3BA Skyworks Spectacular on Monday night.
Among the more than 60 images captured was a standout from amateur Ballarat photographer Ben Carey, who was watching the 16-minute fireworks show illuminate the sky with his wife Rebecca and two children, Harrison, 7, and Matilda, 4.
Mr Carey said he was snapping away with his Cannon 1100d when he decided to try a different technique. The results were spectacular.
“I tried using a longer exposure than I had before,” Mr Carey said.
“I took close to 70 different photos and at one point I was taking a photo every second.
“I’m only a beginner but a friend of mine helped me out with some different ways of using the camera.”
He submitted his wife’s favourite image to The Courier.
“It was hard to choose just one photograph but in the end I went with Rebecca’s favourite,” Mr Carey said. “This was my first attempt so I’ll be back next year to see what I can get after getting a bit more experience behind the lens.
“It was a spectacular light show; you could hear the emotion in the crowd when the lights lit up the sky.”
In Mr Carey’s photograph, sparks of red, green, pink and gold can be seen reflecting off Lake Wendouree.
