Shimon Kaduri, 34, had been in Australia a matter of weeks when he was arrested at Lexton on Sunday morning after stripping down to his shorts and assaulting a woman in an alleged attack on Sunday morning.
Kaduri, a restaurant owner in his native Israel, was apprehended by private security lying down trying to claw his belongings out of the tent, Ballarat Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.
Senior Constable Lynne Forster, from the Divisional Response Unit, told the court Kaduri was in possession of $5505 in various currencies, along with 279 LSD tablets and Ketmaine, which Senior Constable Forster said was colloquially referred to as 'Special K'.
Kaduri, who speaks broken English, stared at police and remained mute during questioning, the court heard.
The accused appeared at court for a bail application, charged with indecent assault, traffic and possess a drug of dependence and deal with property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Police did not oppose Kaduri's bail on the grounds he surrendered his passport and did not apply for further visas to extend his stay in Australia.
"Our concerns are he (Kaduri) is only here as a tourist until the end of March and could be a flight risk," Senior Constable Forster said.
A surety of $40,000 dollars was put up by a friend of Kaduri and he was bailed by magistrate Michelle Hodgson to report at the Brighton police station.
"These are very serious offences," said Hodgson, who said Kaduri's lack of a relevant prior criminal history contributed to him being granted bail.
Kaduri will reappear before Ballarat Magistrates Court on February 26.
