The planning and design concepts, which are a priority for the shire, aim to revitalise the existing town streetscapes in line with community aspirations.
Areas of improvement include traffic calming, improving pedestrian and cyclist amenities and safety, car parking, tree-planting, open space improvements and enhancing heritage character.
For each town a number of project proposals were developed.
Some of these projects include:
Creswick
• Redevelopment of the old Creswick Bowling Club site to include an open, active recreational space for use by all ages.
• Reconfiguration of the Albert Street Retail Precinct to improve pedestrian safety and amenity.
Clunes
• Upgrade and reconfiguration of Collins Place including the area behind the Warehouse – Clunes and in front of Clunes Town Hall.
• Cross-over and furniture improvements in Fraser Street.
Trentham
• Improved parking definition to side streets to increase parking availability.
• New footpaths and upgrades to existing footpaths including the footpath between Market Street and the proposed Trentham Hub site.
Glenlyon
• Upgrade to the Shire Hall forecourt including improved drainage and forecourt parking area.
• Avenue tree maintenance, new plantings and replacements including continuing avenue tree-planting to the northern and southern entries to the town centre.
Hepburn Springs
• Kerb outstands at side street intersections with Main Road including street trees and a trail of commissioned artworks.
• Improving the walking path connections from Main Road to the Mineral Springs Reserve including signage and paving.
The implementation of these plans will be staged over a number of years.
