For former Bluebottle Kiss member Jamie Hutchings, it was a chance to relive his younger songwriting thoughts.
Why reminisce? Because his upcoming performance at Castlemaine’s Bridge Hotel will feature a song from each of his full length albums dating back to the 90s.
“It’s been interesting re-learning the old ones,” he said.
“I have noticed I became much better lyrically, when you’re younger you’re quite earnest.”
A little embarrassed to think what his earlier songs would sound like today, he was surprised at his younger songwriting skills.
“They weren’t as bad as I thought they were.”
For most of his childhood, Hutchings remembered having a knack with the pencil, it was this that lead him to begin writing songs. It was only when he started writing songs and performing on stage that he realised there was no turning back.
“Once you get the bug, you get quite obsessive about it,” he said.
Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Hutchings lead Bluebottle Kiss through six albums with fans following his career every step of the way, but travelling and performing at venues where some wouldn’t even know his name was his biggest career highlight.
Whether The Bridge Hotel will be full of fans or new crowds, Hutchings said he was looking forward to the special performances.
Armed with his acoustic guitar, Hutchings will perform with JMS Harrison on Saturday night.
