Lilac Remilton and Oscar Lamont were two of the new pupils braving the step to being school pupils. Oscar was excited for his first day of school, while Lilac admitted to being a bit nervous.
Principal Paul Nolan said the school began its prep orientation as early as May last year, with the new pupils attending at least once a month to get used to their new school.
“They’ll be straight into it. The preps will have some activities on Thursday and Friday to help them settle in,” he said.
“They will also have the next five Wednesdays off to have a bit of a break, and when there will be individual testing.”
Lisa Richards and Tim Mokrzecki also had their first day at Dana Street – as prep teachers.
Mr Mokrzecki is starting as a teacher after a career change from law, and for Ms Richards this is her first teaching position after graduating from Federation University Australia last year.
“We’ll be doing lots of social play and get-to-know-you activities with the children ... we’ve played Lego, done polygrams and played with mosaics, and done some reading,” Mr Mokrzecki said.
