The OzPress team was overwhelmed and delighted to be named CGU Business of the Year at last night’s CGU Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards gala at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel.
The presentation attracted more than 600 guests from across Ballarat’s business community.
Sixteen businesses were declared winners of their award categories, with OzPress taking out the coveted CGU Business of the Year Award.
A manufacturer of metal pressings, OzPress started operation in 1970 as K&K Fasteners. It has since expanded and now employs more than 40 people and generates more than $8 million in annual sales.
“We started off at the airport and later we had to diversify and we grew our business,” OzPress general manager Luke Dwyer said.
Although a primary supplier to the automotive industry, OzPress has customers in a diverse range of manufacturing areas each with unique requirements.
Mr Dwyer said they strove to improve their costs and quality and to benchmark themselves globally.
OzPress also won the Powercor Manufacturing Award.
The 15 other businesses awarded last night spanned a range of industries, from Ballarat and District Nursing and Healthcare to Gove Cycles and Bike Rack Cafe and Ballarat Bearings.
The Commerce Ballarat Business Achievement Award went to respected legal, and racing identity Geoff Torney, honouring his contribution to the Ballarat community as a whole.
Commerce Ballarat chair Barbara O’Dwyer congratulated all finalists and winners.
She said the awards recognised and promoted the achievements of businesses in the region and encouraged all businesses to embrace innovation and to strive for excellence
“I congratulate all finalists and winners of the 2012 CGU Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards,” Ms O’Dwyer said.
“You have each shown leadership, determination and success and I encourage you to continue to uphold and promote business excellence within our community.”
Judging chairman Damien Butler said the judges had been very impressed with all the site visits leading up to last night’s gala.
The ‘night of nights’ for Ballarat’s business community brought to an end more than five weeks of anticipation for the 48 finalists.
In addition to the award announcements, guests were entertained by international illusionist duo Adam and Selina.
