Both in fact. Actually, if it wasn't for the crazy motives of the African honey badger then there would be no Honey Badgers many Australian music lovers have come to love.
A YouTube video of The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger, viewed more than 71,713,892 times, was the inspiration for the name of the new Australian band nearly two and a half-years ago.
“It’s a very cantankerous animal in South Africa who will attack a whole bee hive and get bitten but just wants the honey,” Honey Badgers frontman Alastair Matcott said.
“It represented our style of music.”
The Honey Badgers will perform at Castlemaine’s The Bridge Hotel this Saturday – the only regional stop on their upcoming tour.
Matcott said the band looked forward to returning to Castlemaine, this time with a new band member and cassette.
“We played there a year ago and really enjoyed it, it has a really good vibe,” he said.
“We will have a new bassist, Jimmy, which will be fun and we will be releasing a new cassette of covers so there will be plenty of covers on the night.”
Looking ahead and the boys are expected to also release an EP later in the year.
