Previous visits to the city for football for Jong have included bitter winds and rain – not that those conditions are likely this time around.
The Bulldogs will be in Ballarat for a community camp in just over two weeks, connecting with the community before their NAB Cup match against Melbourne on March 14.
Jong said the two-day camp would be a great way to embrace the city ahead of proposed AFL home and away games as early as 2017.
He recalls playing his first NAB Cup match in 2012 at Eureka Stadium, when the Bulldogs lost to North Melbourne by 23 points.
It was ideal conditions on that occasion, but that has not always been the case for Jong.
“I remember one year for Footscray it was freezing cold and windy; it was like a cyclone was coming through,” the 21-year-old said. “Saying that though, I’ve always loved playing footy there. I love the change rooms and the oval, the setup is really good.
“It’s important for the club and the players, as well as the fans, that we really connect with the community.”
Jong has played 10 senior games for the Bulldogs and was promoted to the senior list at the end of the 2014 season. He has signed on until the end of 2016.
In association with the community camp, Australia Post and The Courier have combined to offer a lucky reader the opportunity to nominate and win their very own VIP camp experience when the Bulldogs are in town.
