Instead we'll give them all some kudos – three weeks is a really long time to be shacked up in the jungle, especially not with not-much-to-say-but-boy-he-looks-great Tyson. And feisty little Lauren. And old 'no-shirt' Merv. And crazy Maureen. God bless her, she's obviously lovely, but how many of us could really listen to her spouting Eckhart Tolle-isms all day long?

She was no doubt channeling the power of positive thought when it came time to pick teams for the Tucker Trial. She was worried she'd be last chosen. But, as Chrissie pointed out, you can't leave Marcia Brady sitting on the bench. It turns out you can leave Merv Hughes. And they did, leading him to muse that "no one wants the fat kid." Ouch.

Yep, things are starting to get a bit tetchy out there in the wilds of Africa, and later we learn there are some serious divisions emerging. And it's all Freddie's fault.

"He's their alpha," Joel points out, saying he seems to hold some kind of weird sway over the other men in camp. "It's become the back seat of the school bus. It's exhausting," he adds. "They keep referring to me as one of the girls."

Oh dear. But also – yay for Ten! Finally some of the kind of snarky remarks we've been waiting three weeks for. More please!

Next they're off into the African 'jungle' for the very first team Tucker Trial. And it's seriously big budget tonight, people!

The teams are playing for a night at the Jungle Bar, where the cocktails and champers will be free-flowing and the karaoke machine fired up and waiting. You can just tell Maureen's chomping at the bit to sing a bit of Pat Benatar and get loosey-goosey on some white wine spritzers.

Team Andrew are up first, racing through the scrub to pick up as many stars as they can, all while a heard of elephants, trained to catch poachers, brings up the rear.

Poor old Baz admits he hasn't run in five years, so there is every chance Tembo the elephant will sniff him out in a jiffy. The team end up triumphing, but not before Chrissy and her crew almost claim victory, thanks to some last minute finish line sprinting. We think extra points should be awarded to Ms Swan, who dashed to the line holding each of her sizeable boozies. Running with lady boulders aint easy – trust us.

So it's off to the Jungle Bar for Team Andrew – plus one very happy Maureen, who's been handed a spot at the gin palace courtesy of teetotaller Freddie. He trundles back to camp with Chrissy and the gang, who are relieved to find that once away from The Wolf Pack, he's actually not quite as big a douche as they expected.

Back at the bar, shenanigans ensue, and things get loose. Cue the 'The Barry Hall Song And Dance Variety Hour', a group rendition of Wild Thing, and one sticky-fingered Julie, who nicks a knob of ginger from the cocktail cabinet and squirrels it away back to camp. Desperate times and all that – she's busted, and has to hand it back, admitting the whole game "has corrupted me." Yes, Julie it has – and we like it!

Then it's on to more serious things, and some of the celebs open up about their chosen charities. And just like that, every women's mag in the country has next week's My Family Heartache headline ready.

But this is family fun, people, and it wasn't long before things picked up the pace again as Chris and Julia sauntered to the camp to announce the night's eviction results. We have to admit, we were surprised to find it was everyone's favourite naughty little sister Lauren, and not Tyson, who got given the boot.

Let's face it, Ten have been doing their darndest to drop hints about how important it is to 'vote out the boring people'. "If they're boring don't save them," Julia snapped at the start of the show – cut to Tyson sitting on a log, and Merv and Barry playing a spot of chess. Australia didn't listen, and chose instead to vote out the spritely little upstart who dared to take on Merv Hughes and his antiquated views. To be fair, Lauren looked relieved to be going, leaving the camp to live out the final three weeks of their jungle adventure sans her. Something tells us she won't miss those beans and rice.
