But first up, the Waratahs reminded themselves of the greatest risk for any team that has just avenged a previous week's disappointment - that being, to drop their guard and lose again.

Waratahs captain Dave Dennis said the Super Rugby champions addressed the potential danger after their 38-28 round-two victory, knowing that ahead of them was a longer lead-in to their next game against the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday week due to their bye round this week.

"We mentioned last week after the Rebels game that we didn't want something like win one, lose one which we started last year," Dennis said on Tuesday.

"We had something like a six or seven-game streak last year where won, lost, won, lost, won lost ... And that is something we want to eliminate from our season."

Dennis said the Waratahs' upset loss to the Force in round one was more due to the mind, and that after tasting victory against the Rebels the side is hungry for more.

"The difference between the Force game and Rebels game was all attitude," he said.

"When we start preparing for the Reds game [on Saturday week] which will [be] later in the week or Monday, that element of contact will be as high as it ever has been.

"Now we had that slip-up, the boys had a sense of what is required. We already knew what was required and we enjoyed it as well. The boys are hungry for that again."

Meanwhile, Waratahs assistant coach Daryl Gibson said he was confident the Waratahs would again have 41 players to choose from for next week's game against the Reds.

"We have a number of guys nursing minor niggles," Gibson said on Tuesday. "The game against the Rebels was particularly competitive at the breakdown.

"The bye [this week] has come at a good time. We have managed to rest the guys who need that and give them the time ... we expect them all to be available for next week.

"We're fortunate this year that we have had 41 players at training [regularly]. We have a very healthy squad. We're pretty confident we'll have that number next week."

Gibson said Friday's game between the non-spring touring Wallabies of the Waratahs and the Pampas from Argentina will provide some players who have had limited game time with a chance to press for selection, if not for next week then the future.

The touring Pampas trained with the Waratahs at Moore Park on Tuesday afternoon.

"It is a good opportunity for the guys to stake a claim and put pressure on the starting XV," said Gibson, who also confirmed he submitted his application for the Waratahs' head coaching position that Michael Cheika will vacate after this season to focus on his role as Wallabies head coach.
