At busy shopping precincts like Howitt Street, near the Commonwealth Bank, we often park in a normal parking space. We have a permit, but that particular disabled spot is busily taken by cars with permits, but the drivers appear to sometimes be young and are very able bodied, who get in and out quickly with no chair and rush off to the shops.
While getting dad in and out of the tight spaces with a wheelchair nearby I look on at these people regularly. I'd like to see the authorities watch these busy car spaces for a day and see how disabled parking permits are being abused by people who clearly do not need to park there.
