What a great afternoon I had when I went to see Ballarat Lyric Theatre's production of Hairspray.
Congratulations, there are some very talented people involved with this company, both backstage and on stage.
While I appreciated how beautifully the music was played by the orchestra, the conductor made the same old mistake that many conductors make.
It is a stage show, not an orchestra pit show. We love to hear your music, but we also need to hear the singers, especially the soloists.
We need to hear them because what they are singing about relates to the story.
It was very difficult whenever the orchestra drowned them out.
I'm not surpr
r
ised that 'Tracy' fell in love with 'Link', played by Todd Jacobsson. I thought he was wonderful. What a great performer. He is a magnificent dancer and singer. I think we are going to see this young man many times.
Congratulations to Steve O'Neill for a great performance. When some men play a female role, they frequently overdo their performance, but Steve was very convincing. In fact, the lady I went with didn't realise that it was a man.
Abigail Grace as Tracy was wonderful. It is quite a big role to play and her singing and her dancing was wonderful. Congratulations Abigail.
Well done to the chorus. You put a lot of energy into everything you did.
Great lively dancing and the bit part players were all good.
But who really caught my eye -
Bryone Wharton.
What an amazing voice, I could have listened to her all night.
Congratulations Ballarat Lyric Theatre.
A wonderful team effort by everyone.
