The 29-year-old suffered an asthma attack about 9.30am after inhaling toxic chemicals, believed to be "polymer fumes" from a concrete mix.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the man was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew from Beaufort before being taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital about 9.50am.
"It appears that he has inhaled some fumes and has then suffered an asthma attack," Mr Mullen said.
The man is in a stable condition.
