Professional poker player Bill Jordanou and co-accused Robert Zaia are alleged to have defrauded the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and other

lenders between 2004 and 2013 through clients of Mr Zaia's accountancy firm.

Both men face more than 140 dishonesty charges.

Mr Jordanou and Mr Zaia were on bail since they were charged last year, but police this week applied in Melbourne Magistrates Court for that right to be revoked because of allegations they defrauded lenders last year to obtain money for a boat, a Jeep and a land development.

Police also allege the pair were part of a group - also comprising one man with links to an outlaw motorcycle gangs and another with links to organised crime - that threatened to harm an associate's baby unless he cooperated.

Magistrate Suzie Cameron on Thursday found the new evidence, based on the balance of probability, indicated the men had acted "brazenly and demonstrated little insight into the matters before the court".

Ms Cameron said documents obtained by police last year bore "striking similarities" to allegedly falsified documents already before the court.

She said the accused pair posed an unacceptable risk of offending while on bail, and was concerned by the escalation in the allegations against them, including the threat against the man's child and the company they kept.

The court heard the new allegations were unlikely to result in criminal charges unless the man who was allegedly threatened made a statement to police.

Mr Jordanou and Mr Zaia now face the prospect of spending at least a year in custody before their case goes to trial.

They and Mr Jordanou's wife, Suzanne, and Mr Zaia's business partner, Scott Arthur, are due to appear before a committal hearing in April.

Mr Jordanou hugged his wife and then said "well done, Steve" to Detective Leading Senior Constable Stephen Howe, a fraud squad investigator, before he and Mr Zaia were taken into custody.
