Thomas Michael Doyle has pleaded guilty to one representative charge of indecent assaulting the girl between 1965 and 1974, from when she was aged between seven and 15.

The County Court has been told there were also examples of uncharged offending dating back to 1961, when the girl was three.

Doyle was a jumps jockey at the time and regularly stayed at the girl's home.

Doyle, now 76 and a pensioner living in Brisbane, was to be sentenced on Friday, but judge Roy Punshon said the case had caused him "anxiety", as he wanted to know if the guilty man was remorseful for his offending.

Judge Punshon said a guilty plea did not necessarily equate to remorse, and said Doyle had displayed little insight into his offending in his recorded interview with police.

The judge said he was considering imposing a jail term of up to 18 months, and needed to determine if he suspended the sentence or ordered Doyle serve time in jail.

Defence counsel Matthew Page said he could not produce "evidence of clear remorse", although Doyle had acknowledged the "devastating impact" his crime had had on his victim after reading her victim impact statement, and had admitted his offending to friends.

The court has heard the victim reported Doyle's offending to relatives when she was about 10, but that she was given the strap by an uncle and told "not to tell lies about ... a good man".

The victim suffered a breakdown at age 16, prosecutor Catherine Parkes told a plea hearing held earlier this month, and soon after reported Doyle to police, but no charges were ever laid.

Judge Punshon described as tragic the failure to take any action against Doyle up until 2011.

Judge Punshon said he hoped to sentence Doyle next week.
