Suzanne Donald, who was well known in Ballarat, and now sings by her married name of Suzanne Ribet has the leading role.
I was completely carried away by the beauty of the music, the orchestra and chorus were wonderful, and Suzanne and the other principals, who have, like Suzanne, appeared in professional companies overseas and in Australia, are so strong. There are only four performances at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, this Friday 6th March at 7.30, and Sat 7th then Fri 13th and Sat 14th.
Suzanne is singing as the poor wronged woman whose lover is now with a married woman, and she is left, unable to attend her church, as a fallen woman.
Sue is singing the two Friday performances. To anyone who loves opera, and remembers Suzanne, make the effort.
