CHFL: Hepburn crushes reigning premiers

HEPBURN had a point to prove, and how it showed.

The Burras, upset by Daylesford in dramatic circumstances last weekend, were emphatic 64-point winners over reigning premiers Waubra in today's Central Highlands Football League second semi final at Dunnstown.

Hepburn burst out of the blocks and established a 31-point quarter time lead that was never threatened for the remainder of the match.

Newly-crowned Geoff Taylor Medallist Andy McKay starred for the Burras, booting four goals in a masterful display around the ground, while spearhead Lee Cox was strong up forward, finishing with seven majors.

The Burras, led down back by Leigh Santurini and Daniel Smith, had a host of winners and moved the ball with great fluency. The Roos, meanwhile, appeared to struggle with the tempo and pressure applied by their rivals, with Tom Nash, Shaun Mullane and Tom Nijam amongst the better contributors.

Hepburn now prepares for a blockbuster preliminary final clash with Buninyong next weekend, while Waubra farewells coach Shane Skontra from the helm with its season now over.

Tomorrow's first semi final with see Bungaree and Newlyn lock horns at Waubra.
