Midlands Golf Club professional Michael Cooke predicted a quality field of professionals and tip top greens and fairways would provide good golf and low scores.
A full line-up of 50 professionals will tee off on Saturday at Midlands and at Ballarat Golf Club on Sunday.
Mr Cooke said quite a few pros were carrying considerable form into the event.
“David McKenzie won the Victoria PGA and Kristopher Mueck just finished third in the New Zealand Open,” he said. “There’s also Scott Laycock, as well.
“The field is at least on a par with last year and, with the condition of the courses, we’re expecting some low scores.
“Tony Collier is probably the best bet from a local perspective, along with Ben Roberts, but it will be hard for a local to win it.”
In addition to the professionals 150 amateurs will range from scratch up to handicaps of 36.
One is Cameron Cowan, a lawyer with Shine Lawyers, who carries a handicap of 25.
“I’m not sure how well I will go, but I am looking forward to playing with a pro and learning a thing or two,” he said.
There will be shotgun starts at Midlands on Saturday and Ballarat Golf Club on Sunday at 7.30am and 12.30pm.
