The Bushrangers have experienced one of the most successful periods in their history under Shipperd, having claimed nine titles including a fourth Sheffield Shield on Wednesday, and the 58-year-old admitted he was still processing the decision taken to move him on.

"It hasn't sunk in yet," Shipperd told SEN.

"Where it leaves me, I'm not quite sure ... (I've received) no explanation really at this stage other than that it's time for a new voice.

"That didn't sit with me particularly well because I still do have the passion for coaching.

"That's still taken a while for me to process given the trajectory our team is on, so hopefully the board on behalf of Cricket Victoria have made the right decision.

"You'd probably need to be sitting as a fly on the wall in the board room meeting about why those calls were made in the sense that we had nine of our batters averaging over 40 and six bowlers sort of averaging under 30 (this season).

"So the team is in good shape, it's moving in the right direction."

Darren Berry has recently left his post as South Australian coach, but Shipperd did not think there was a conspiracy being played out behind the scenes to ensure the legendary Victorian wicketkeeper became the new Bushrangers mentor.

While disappointed at losing his job, Shipperd insisted he would still be happy to stay on with the team in a different role and even suggested his dismissal might eventually be validated.

"As well as the old coach there's a couple of old players that also, down track, will be considering their positions as well, so it just might all be the absolute right move. Who knows? Time will tell," Shipperd said.

"It might send me off in a different direction that is quite positive. I'm quite happy to sit below the next person or alongside the next person or somewhere and continue to help develop players as the Junction Oval comes on board and keep Victoria strong.

"I'm sure we'll find a place that satisfies everyone."

Shipperd said Victoria's triumph in the Shield final at Bellerive Oval against Western Australia was a nice finish to a "freak season" which saw the Bushrangers play only two games at the MCG due to its unavailability as a result of the Cricket World Cup.

"The boys really enjoyed last night and it's been a long season - a very, very good season for the players individually and the team," he said.

"It was different, it was absolutely different. Alice Springs, I can tell you, took some petrol tickets out of our bowling attack and I think that really showed in this game.

"We just accepted it, our catchphrase was be unemotional about the conditions, be unemotional about the toss and just go and get the job done.

"We were looked after particularly well, so it was like a long away trip, the boys bonded really well."

Shipperd singled out veteran David Hussey for his uncharacteristically defensive batting performance on Wednesday which saw him hit an unbeaten 37 off 169 balls and ensure the final ended in a draw.

"I've been preaching some defensive talk for a long time to David Hussey and yesterday the great old man got out there and he just blocked them and it was beautiful to see that he could shift gears and shift his mind to get the job done for the team," he said.
