Ultrafox's Peter Baylor said listeners can expect to be treated to some of the finest exponents of the French Manouche style of jazz guitar in Australia.
"Expect hot swinging jazz with fiery yet lyrical soloing underpinned by the muscular driving rhythm of double bass and Guitar," he said.
"Ultrafox play jazz from the twenties to the forties but include French tunes, Latin and gypsy waltzes.
"French Manouche (gypsy) jazz brings together various styles of music like American jazz and swing tunes, but also has an eastern European tradition in the rhythmic dynamic and harmony ... It revolves around the acoustic guitar as the driving force of the music."
This will be the second time the group has performed at Suttons House of Music which has become one of their favourite venues to perform at.
"The room has a wonderful old world character to it and people can spread out there in arm chairs if they like and listen or dance on the ample wooden dance floor.. we've found the crowd to be very responsive and enthusiastic in Ballarat, more so than in Melbourne, so its always fun," he said.
"I think ultimately we enjoy the sound of some the beautiful rooms we play in.
"Our guitars are french gypsy guitars, different to other guitars and have a particular sound to them. They are acoustically loud and need to be played that way in order to coax the "gypsy" sound from them.
"So when you play a room you know in an instant that its right."
Ultrafox will perform at Suttons House of Music on Saturday, April 4 from 8pm. Free entry.
