I WAS near a charity shop today and noted two things: 1. A large sign detailing what not to leave electrical items were listed; 2. Next to the collection bin was an old-style television and three old computer monitors, left for the charity to dispose of at a cost to them.

This appears to be a common practice for disposal of hard rubbish.
I also hear often of rubbish being dumped in our state forests and in plantations.
Surely this points to a fundamental problem with how our council addresses rubbish collection and disposal.
There has never been a hard rubbish day in Ballarat that I can recall.
Maybe this could be tried by our city leaders. Many other councils in the state do this on a regular, often annual basis, so the knowhow is available if they asked.
Maybe costs at the disposal centre are too high it might be cheaper to make this free and save instead on cleaning our forests.
It is about time the council officers started to address the basic needs of our city rubbish, recreation and roads and stopped all their grand plans.
