The poppies will be set up on the school oval for its Anzac Day service, with most offered for sale and the proceeds going to Legacy.
The school will keep 100 poppies, which will form an artwork to be displayed with its World War I display.
Community development leader Grant Luscombe said the project was driven by the students, with many participating after school hours and during class breaks.
Art teacher Paul Gerardi said the glazed poppies should last indefinitely. He will continue to work on the poppies so they will be finished by the end of the school holidays.
Year 12 student Samantha Treadwell came up with the idea after seeing a poppy display flowing out of the Tower of London.
“I thought it would be great to bring it here – as a way we could remember those who fought for us in this significant centenary year,” she said.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without those who fought for our country.”
Along with a couple of other school leaders, they spent six months planning and preparing, even coming to school in the holidays. “It’s for a great cause. We’d do it all again,” Samantha said.
The service will be held on the school’s back oval at 11am on April 23.
