Police have appealed to the community for help to track down Ballarat man Kyle Green.
BALLARAT police "guarantee the safety" of a man they have already fired upon if he hands himself in peacefully.
Kyle Green, 25, was the subject of a massive manhunt on Friday after police opened fire on him in Ballarat East at about 3.20pm.
Today police said it was in Mr Green’s best interests to turn himself in.
Ballarat Police Inspector Bruce Thomas told The Courier police were "determined to apprehend him".
"We believe he is dangerous (and) we want to apprehend him before either himself, a member of the community or a member of the police force gets hurt," he said.
"We guarantee his safety if he walks into a police station - we're not going to be waiting for him with guns drawn or anything."
Inspector Thomas said police decided to release Mr Green's name and image in the hope the community would help bring about an arrest.
"Somebody out there will know where he is," he said.
Detective Sergeant Craig Dooley, who is handling the case, said police were concerned about the public's safety.
"I think it’s in everyone's best interests if he gives himself up, or at least makes contact with us,” he said.
Mr Green's car was found shortly after the police member fired the shot, dumped down a dirt track in the Mt Clear area.
Two other males were arrested at the scene, but Mr Green was not.
Mr Green was known to police before the incident and was already wanted for drug and burglary offences.
Dozens of police members scoured different areas of Ballarat looking for the man on Friday evening.
Police searched the area near the Ballarat gold mine, as well as Mt Pleasant and Ballarat East areas.
The police helicopter also circled around Mt Pleasant as part of the search.
Mr Green was not injured by the shot fired on Friday.
