Now dubbed the Federation Business School Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards, a crowd of about 50 people gathered at the university’s manufacturing and engineering centre for the official launch of the awards, which recognise the achievements of the region’s best businesses.
Federation Business School executive dean Bob O’Shea spoke to the crowd and told The Courier the business school’s involvement in the awards had been a “no-brainer”.
“This involvement with Commerce Ballarat and the awards is the perfect match,” Mr O’Shea said. “We have made a commitment over the next three years and aim to promote, encourage and reward business excellence in the region.”
Alongside the new naming partner, Commerce Ballarat has also introduced a new category, the Produce to Plate Award – celebrating farmers and producers who have developed their products to a commercial level.
Commerce Ballarat chairman David Wright said the awards were an important way of celebrating and recognising the achievements of local businesses, while fostering growth and development.
“The awards have evolved into a tool for business owners to review their business in a way that is not always achievable during day-to-day operations,” Mr Wright said.
“These awards are about the future of individual businesses, of making them better able to meet the ever-increasing challenges of today’s business world.”
Commenting on the new award category, Mr Wright said it would benefit the whole of the Grampians region.
“The produce to plate award looks to highlight the many producers and growers we have not only in the Ballarat region, but across the Grampians,” Mr Wright said.
“They are the grassroots of our business community and we want to acknowledge their efforts in putting our region on the map.”
