The VicTrack, and indeed the whole of Victoria Park, is a wonderful asset for Ballarat.
The only downside to the VicTrack is that the provision of drinking water is sadly lacking there are no drinking fountains on the whole five kilometre circuit. This is a serious issue, particularly in the warmer summer months hydration while exercising is vitally important.
As a contrast, there are at least nine drinking fountains/hydration stations on the six kilometre Moneghetti Track around Lake Wendouree and most have been installed in the past couple of years.
For several years I have been writing to the City of Ballarat to ask it to consider installing some drinking fountains in Victoria Park.
The responses can best be summarised as "good idea but there are no funds available".
This is not good enough. I don't believe that the cost to install just four taps covering each side of the VicTrack (ie Gillies St, Winter St, Russell St and Sturt St) could not be accommodated within the council's budget.
Come on City of Ballarat "Be Smart. Choose Tap".
I encourage all other users of the VicTrack who share my sentiments to send a letter to the City of Ballarat to encourage them to "give us a drink".
There are enough VicTrackers out there that we should be able to make something happen.
