Walters will undergo a full shoulder reconstruction after sustaining yet another injury in a pre-season practice match.
He is set to go under the knife this month, with coach Glenn Wilkins admitting it was unlikely the damaging midfielder would play again this season.
“Obviously, it hurts us because Hayden is a quality footballer, but at the same time, it gives someone else the opportunity to step up,” Wilkins said.
Walters missed the second half of last season with a similar injury, but did not have surgery.
Wilkins said doctors had cleared him to train and play throughout the pre-season, before a slight knock fully dislocated his shoulder.
“He had been given the green light to play and had been tackling and bumping and looking good,” he said.
“It was an innocuous contest and it fully dislocated his shoulder. It’s unfortunate but it happens in football.”
East Point will start their 2015 campaign against Redan at City Oval on April 18.
