The Paleo Cafe, a franchise on the popular 400 block with L’Espresso, Europa and Golden City, opened on Wednesday offering the first customers between 7am and 9am free coffee with breakfast.
Owner Megan Bond said visitors were keen to try the bullet-proof coffee, which blends coffee with butter and MCT oil.
The paleo diet sees people eat as caveman would have – focusing on unprocessed whole foods and avoiding grains, legumes, refined sugars and dairy.
Ms Bond said she turned to a paleo diet after suffering chronic fatigue for years, and is both coeliac and lactose intolerant.
“I was sick for years. Within six months, I was a different person. Paleo changed my life,” she said.
She said she believed paleo was not just a trend, but a lifestyle choice many people had chosen to make.
However the cafe isn’t just for those on a paleo diet.
“A lot of people can’t have dairy – we have no dairy on premises. All our food is gluten free – so it suits lots of people.”
Fiona Harris enjoyed breakfast on the opening morning at the new cafe. She follows a semi-paleo diet.
“Eating real food is the ethos I like. There’s nothing wrong with reducing processed foods and eating real food,” she said.
Jamie Greenwood gave the cafe a try wanting to try something new. He said he enjoyed quality food, whatever name it fell under.
