East Ballarat cricketer selected in Vic Country

EAST BALLARAT's Matt Short has been selected in the Victorian Country under-17 cricket team.

Vic Country plays Vic Metro in a series at Cobram-Barooga on September 24-27.

Short is making his name as an all-rounder, combining top order batting with right-arm off-spin bowling.

He represented Central Highlands in last season's prestigious statewide under-16 competition, the Dowling Shield.

Short was named player of the championship.

The Cobram-Barooga series will feature two twenty20s and two one-day matches, and is considered a vital part of the Cricket Victoria pathway program and underage talent identification.

The Victorian team for the national under-17 championships in Hobart in December will be named after this series.

The Central Highlands region also has Patrick McKenna (Gisborne), Jack Baker (Gisborne) and Logan Gray (Sunbury) in the Vic Country squad.
