Ballarat’s Hives moved up 184 places in the WTA rankings after claiming her first professional win in the $15,000 Melbourne Park Women’s International last week.
Hives has been in strong form this year as she prepares to take her game to Europe.
Her 2015 win-loss record is 14-4 and includes reaching the semi-finals in Mildura on grass as a qualifier and reaching the quarter-finals in Mornington on the Australian Pro Tour.
The 18-year-old told The Courier last week that she had expected her Melbourne win would push her ranking into the mid-500s.
Melbourne capped off a five-tournament period in which she had started ranked in the 900s.
Hives trains with the MCC Tennis Academy under coach Michael Logarzo, based in Melbourne, and will move into a month-long training block before testing her game in Europe and potentially the United States in a bid to further improve her world ranking.
Sally Peers, who Hives defeated in the Melbourne Park final, jumped 272 spots to world No. 680 after their final.
