Yates had a stellar campaign for the Mounties, making 511 runs at an average of 73, while also taking 18 wickets for the season.
The team consists of three Ballarat Cricket Association stars, with Wendouree’s Heath Pyke named as an opening batsman, while Brown Hill all-rounder Shane Harwood was selected at number seven on the batting order.
Carranballac’s Luke Jackson was named an opener alongside Pyke after making 690 runs in the Grenville Cricket Association season, while Rokewood’s Paul Wells booked a spot after a 747-run season.
Four Gisborne Cricket Association players also made the side, with Sunbury United pace bowler James Hughes listed as vice-captain.
Yates, a past EJ Cleary Medallist, described his selection as a surprise, given a torn muscle saw him unable to bowl for a fair chunk of the season.
“A bit of a surprise to be honest,” he said.
“It (the season) wasn’t too bad. It was a bit hit or miss. I didn’t bowl for about six weeks.”
