The Monday night meeting attracted more than 250 residents, traders and developers from throughout the city.
Concerned traders from Latrobe Street, near the existing saleyards, also attended.
Miners Rest resident Rob Tevena said many people could not understand why the saleyards were being moved to the Sunraysia Highway site as the area was regularly flooded.
He said residents also voiced concern that the development would stifle infrastructure growth in the region and that any existing infrastructure could be “severely devalued”.
“We are also concerned about the odour, traffic dangers and noise from distressed animals which would impact on our community.”
A committee was established to campaign against the development.
Another meeting will be held at 11am on Sunday.
