Melbourne Cup: Weir's three nominations

DARREN WEIR has three nominations for the Melbourne Cup.

His 2009 Melbourne Cup runner Leica Ding, and imports Miss Crissy and Puissance de Lune are among entries released today.

Leica Ding has had just the one race start since midfield in the Melbourne Cup three years ago.

Miss Crissy and Puissance de Lune are former French gallopers with the Ballarat stable.

Miss Crissy has had just the one Australian start, when the unplaced favourite at Doomben in the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Her two career wins have been over 2400m as a three-year-old filly.

She has gone on to be twice placed in group 2 company.

Puissance de Lune, which is also nominated for the Caulfield Cup, won his first two starts for Weir in May.

His only other Australian run produced a city fourth.

The five-year-old has not raced since June.

Robert Smerdon's Caulfield/Ballarat operation has entered Innocent Lady, Shewan and import Verdant.

Flemington-based John Sadler, who has a satellite stable in Ballarat, has Linton, Rusticated, The Chevron and Winchester nominated.

The Chevron won in Ballarat on Sunday, while Winchester and Rusticated had track gallops before the opening event at Dowling Forest.

Racing Victoria has received 151 nominations for the $6.2m event to be run at Flemington on Tuesday, November 6.

Twenty-five of the entries are overseas gallopers.
