EAST Ballarat’s Matt Short will vie for selection in the Victorian under-17 cricket team in a series in Cobram-Barooga on September 24-27.
Short will play for Vic Country against Vic Metro.
The series will feature two twenty20s and two one-day matches.
Cricket Victoria selectors will name the state team for the national under-17 championships in Hobart in December after the series.
Short had an outstanding run at club and representative levels last summer.
He represented Central Highlands in the premier statewide under-16 competition, the Dowling Shield.
The top order batsman and right-arm off-spinner was named player of the championship.
In the Ballarat Cricket Association, Short made 413 runs in the under-16 gold competition – averaging 45.9 with a highest score of 101.
He took 14 wickets at 13.8.
Short also made a half century for East Ballarat in the firsts.
Short is one of four Central Highlanders in the Vic Country under-17 line-up.
He is joined by Patrick McKenna (Gisborne), Jack Baker (Gisborne) and Logan Gray (Sunbury).
The Central Highlands region also has two players in the Vic Country under-19 team to also play at Cobram-Barooga – Jakson Knight (Gisborne/Footscray Edgewater) and James Lidgett (Gisborne/North Melbourne).
