McCartin will captain North City in 2015, unanimously voted by his peers to replace dual premiership skipper Jason McNamara.
McNamara stepped down from the role after last year’s flag, but will continue to play on in 2015.
North City coach Rob Waters said McCartin had been a valued servant of the club for his entire football career and seemed the perfect choice to take his side into battle this year.
McCartin, who won last year’s club best and fairest, was clearly voted as the preferred captain by the North playing list.
“He has been one of our most important players for a long time,” Waters said.
“... He is definitely the best person to lead the club.”
McCartin will lead North City into its first game of the season on Saturday, as it prepares to take on perennial rival Redan. Waters said McCartin had captained the side previously, when McNamara was out of the side, but had never played while officially appointed as skipper.
He will be backed by a five-man leadership group that includes Daniel Jones, Brendan Howard, Ryan Luke and the Bromley-Lynch twins – Sam and Josh.
The blockbuster Ballarat Football League round at the weekend will feature all five matches on Anzac Day, with three of them played under lights.
Meanwhile, the Central Highlands Football League will mostly be played out on Sunday, with just three of its nine matches hosted on Saturday.
