Ballarat wild weather: worst yet to come

STRONG winds last night have knocked trees onto a house, a car and damaged fences around Ballarat - but the worst could still be to come.

SES regional duty officer Tony Grimme said volunteers had responded to a number of calls already.

"The Ballarat crew has had 12 jobs so far, the Bacchus Marsh crews have had 10 jobs and the Stawell crews have had four jobs," Mr Grimme said.

"But it's still early days - the main front hasn't hit yet."

Wind gusts of 65km/h lashed Ballarat early this morning, with large trees falling onto a house at Lake Esmond and another onto a car in Black Hill.

The main weather front has crossed the South Australian border and is expected to be at Ballarat later in the day.
