Ballarat Rush was outplayed by Kilsyth, 94-51, in South East Australian Basketball League action at the MARS Minerdome on Sunday.
Completely outplayed. And Cunningham said his team, his whole team, had let the Lady Cobras have their own way.
"There was no teamwork, no passion, no enthusiasm out there and that was reflected in the results," he said. "(Kilsyth) worked harder than us. They did what they liked in the end."
The loss comes in a week in which Harvey Norman Rush trained well and spent a lot of quality time fine-tuning plays. The general vibe in the Rush camp leading into the game had been good. But they failed to execute.
Rush recruit Shanae Greaves was a consistent hard worker, finishing with 15 points (50 per cent field goal accuracy) and six rebounds.
There were patches of handy play from Kasey Burton and returned captain Abbey Wehrung, in her season debut. But they lacked support.
Rush made a slow start, down 18-36 at quarter-time, but regrouped and showed a little spark to pressure the Lady Cobras in the first five minutes of the second term. The Lady Cobras adjusted and powered away.
Rush failed to stop any key Lady Cobras.
Former Rush player Steph Cumming was stellar with 26 points (three three-pointers) with 58 per cent accuracy. Cass Sant (16 points), Chantella Perera (16 off the bench), Sarah Parsons (14 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) were left loose.
The big assignments keep coming. Rush has Nunawading on the road next Saturday night before returning home for a chance at redemption before a Minerdome crowd against Frankston on Sunday.
