RELOCATION of the Ballarat Saleyards means yet another facility has succumbed to progress. Mind you there aren't many left on their original site.

Every major selling centre in every capital city has been relocated, the last being Midland in Western Australia to Muchea. Roma in Queensland is one example which defies the trend thus far but who knows what a mining or cattle boom might bring.
Newmarket was another not relocated, more banished in the name of development one of the reasons we moved to WA. In basic terms it means further for the livestock to travel at more expense, which is passed on to the consumer and the producer alike, make no mistake. Subsequently, I feel some sympathy for your writer from Miners Rest having a livestock selling centre dumped on their front door step. Perhaps those charged with the responsibility of relocation could reconsider the options and move the yards to a more acceptable location.
I know it's not a good idea to approach the natives when our local selling centre at Boyanup is conducting weaner sales; the yards are virtually part of the town.
