Ballarat Hackerspace will open its doors for the first time on Saturday with electronics, drones, multicopters and 3D printers on display.
Ballarat Hackerspace president Scott Weston said the open day was an opportunity for people to see what the space was all about.
“Ballarat is a high-tech city; I imagine a lot of people will find this place useful,” he said.
“Anyone who is a geek and interested in electronics, technology, science and engineering will enjoy this. The space will have access to tools you won’t have access to at home.”
Treasurer Stuart Clark said founders of the initiative would be available on the day for questions, but ultimately it was a chance to show the community how the space could be used.
He said the hackerspace aimed to promote a culture of education while giving locals a place to share knowledge and create their own gadgets and devices.
“It’s partially for like-minded people and partially to educate people,” Mr Clarke said.
“We want to inspire people to make their own projects.”
The Ballarat Hackerspace will be open to the public on the first, third and fourth Tuesday of every month from 7pm. For more information, visit ballarathackerspace.org.au
