The preschool will host a special Mother’s Day High Tea at the Waubra Community Hub next month to pay homage to the community’s mums.
Waubra Preschool director and child educator Naomi Ivey said the fundraiser would collect money for plans to build a new state-of-the-art play space.
The plans include a vegetable and herb garden, performing arts space, a fairy and mystical creature garden and sensory garden.
The high tea comes after the kindergarten’s last fundraiser, a special screening of Fifty Shades of Grey, was cancelled at the last minute.
The screening at Regent Cinemas was cancelled after a social media campaign by a group who complained it eroticised violence against women.
Ms Ivey said the kindergarten was keen to move forward from the controversy.
She said parents at the preschool had already generously volunteered to provide some of the materials and labour for the new play space.
She said the preschool was hoping to raise more than $2500 through the high tea, which would ensure works could commence on the development in the coming months.
“The preschool community has been absolutely phenomenal in their support for the new play space,” Ms Ivey said.
“We want construction to begin on the project as soon as possible so the children attending the kindergarten now get to enjoy the benefits of the development before they go onto school next year.”
The high tea will be held at the Waubra Community Hub on Friday, May 8, from 11am. It will include an array of homemade sweet and savoury foods, tea and coffee.
There will also be live music and a massage corner.
Tickets cost $25 a person or a table of 10 for $200.
