As a result of ongoing discussions I am pleased that we have been able to settle the contract dispute that saw Nathan (Horbury) not participating in the sport he loves and is so very good at playing.
Two weeks ago Nathan decided to return to train with North Ballarat and was accepted by his former teammates with open arms. He is performing to the standards expected and as a result he will return to playing football with Redan in a few weeks' time.
Throughout this process I can only compliment Nathan for his professionalism and his openness in all dealings he has had with our head coach Gerard FitzGerald and the club generally.
Both parties have been open and clear in their views and the values that have driven the ongoing and very honest negotiations.
This process has taken time, however contractual disputes are never easy to resolve as there are numerous consequences and ramifications for both parties that need to be carefully and fully explored and resolved. We are delighted that as a club we have been able to stay true to our beliefs and at the same time ensure Nathan will continue to play football.
The North Ballarat Football Club have never had an issue with Nathan he is a fine young man who through this process has continued to always be understanding and respectful of our position and we have at all times returned that respect.
Now that we have reached agreement we look forward to seeing Nathan back playing football again.
The North Ballarat Football Club also denies categorically the allegations made in Mr Hoey's letter suggesting that any inappropriate pressure was placed on Nathan to sign his Roosters contract in the first place.
It is worthwhile to note that in discussions with others, both internal and external to the club about this issue, once our reasons for our stance were fully explained, they could understand that we were taking a fair and balanced approach.
