The pair were Loreto College classmates, however grew apart soon after high school.
In 2011, Mrs Cornish learned she had an inoperable tumour in the frontal lobe of her brain.
At the time, the mother of three was told she had six months to live. But, after intensive medical treatment, Ms Cornish is still fighting.
On Saturday, Ms Pierce, who came back into her friend’s life three-and-a-half years ago, and a group of Loreto College girls held a fundraiser for the Cornish family at Ballarat Lodge.
Mrs Cornish and her husband Chris were overwhelmed by the turnout. “It is really overwhelming ... it’s unbelievable,” Mr Cornish said.
Mercure Ballarat donated $9250 to the family during the formalities. About $20 of the $35 ticket price was donated to the Cornish family.
Mr Cornish said the money raised would be used for Sue’s care.
Mrs Cornish thanked everyone for their support.
“Lisa has just been so wonderful, she’s been such a little angel,” she said.
