JOB creation, major projects and public services are key issues for Ballarat City Council candidate Matthew Freeman.
Mr Freeman yesterday announced that he will stand in the central ward in the October 27 local government elections.
“We need to look ahead for the next 10 to 20 years,” Mr Freeman said. “The city’s rapid population growth will present enormous challenges for jobs.
“The next council must be a vigorous advocate for jobs and major projects throughout all of Ballarat.”
Mr Freeman, who is a media officer and former journalist, said Ballarat residents also wanted a council that represented everyone.
“The creation of jobs and the maintenance of public services is the best way that Ballarat families can get value for money from their rates and charges. Ratepayers want a back-to-basics approach on the things that really matter to them.
“They also want more major projects to get off the ground and a visible council that will stand up for TAFE opportunities for everyone.
“The least the council should do is stand up and say they are unhappy with the TAFE cuts.”
Mr Freeman said two other council priorities should be improved aged care and more environmental initiatives.
“The number of Ballarat citizens aged over 65 will increase rapidly over the next 10 years.
“The city needs a renewed emphasis on our senior citizens, particularly as the number of people in need of Home and Community Care services will grow.”
Mr Freeman supported free fortnightly green waste disposal and an annual hard rubbish pick-up.
